kangaroo island love affair
As teenagers we visited Kangaroo Island and explored the beaches, fished in the local waters, met the locals and experienced a step back in time to a life more relaxed, bushland undisturbed and natures paradise on your doorstep. We didn’t need to go far before we fell in love with Island Beach. Many trips and years later we were in the lucky position to purchase a block of land and build our first property, Beachcomber. Our children and their grandparents spent many holidays with us enjoying swimming in the clear waters, collecting numerous shells, catching King George Whiting and experiencing the total relaxation that hits you the moment you arrive. We started sharing our little piece of paradise with guests in 2006 and other families then enjoyed spending their holidays on Kangaroo Island too. Recognising a growing interest from tourists holidaying with us, coupled with the desire for a career change led us to build Cassini Beach House in 2011 and Nautilus in 2015. We spend our time between Kangaroo Island and Adelaide and enjoy meeting our guests and helping them plan their trip.
We both have a passion for the beach and never tire of walking its extent. Every day brings something different, be it a brightly coloured fan shell, watching the Pied Oyster Catchers introduce their chicks to the world or the pelican fleet cruise efortlessly only centimetres from the water.
The seasons bring their own point of difference to life on Kangaroo Island. Summer is a time of luminous blue water sparkling in the sunshine, paddling along the shore spotting marine life and enjoying long balmy evenings. Autumn brings mild days and the greening up of pastures and bushlands. Winter is often milder on the island than elsewhere due to being surrounded by water. Longer evenings inside around the cosy wood fire, brisk walks on the beach and even braving the water to fish for winter Whiting. Spring is a beautiful time with the promise of summer around the corner and the aromatic golden wattles adding a vibrance to the bushland. Each season has its own special appeal. We love Kangaroo Island all year round.
