Life for us on Kangaroo Island during these different times
Kangaroo Island locals, businesses and farmers have been significantly affected by the impact of restrictions following COVID19. In true island spirit everyone has rallied together to suppport each other. Many businesses who overnight lost all their usual trade have shown ingenuity and inspiration . Restaurants and cafes have developed amazing take away offerings. We have had the ability to pick up, or in many instances have delivered, delicious meals from Sunset Food and Wine, Cactus, Millie Mae’s Pantry and Salty Dog Diner.
Getting out and about meant that lots of dogs got great exercise on the beach as well as on some local tracks and bushland. A cheery wave or “Hi” as we passed was a nice little social interaction. Every business took great care to ensure staff and customers were safe, with sanitiser, good distancing guidelines and straightforward directions. All done with a smile.
Facebook pages have helped everyone keep in touch, share ideas or information and keep each other up to date on where we are at. We have enjoyed some of the videos from around the world of musicians and everyday people singing and sharing messages of love and compassion. Jokes have also been thick and fast as well as some great photos.
We are all hoping that the great results Australia has seen will continue, that some of the harsher restrictions will be able to be lifted and life will take a few more steps towards normality.
